Alpaca wool’s unmatched natural attributes
– Silky softness & fineness- As soft as cashmere with an average range of 18-25 microns. Alpaca improves with age and is often described as a ‘hard-wearing cashmere’.
– Hypoallergenic- if you are sensitive to sheep’s wool, alpaca is a great alternative as it has minimum lanolin content, so you do not get the prickle factor associated with other wools.
– Durable & lightweight- Alpaca is second only to silk for strength but as soft as cashmere, and yet its properties are more hardwearing than both. It is around 4 times harder wearing than other wools and does not pill or ball. In Victorian times, alpaca garments were so prized due to their durability that they were often bequeathed in wills. Exceptionally lightweight, you will find warmth in light alpaca garments during colder seasons.
– Water-resistant, anti-bacterial and odour resistant- alpaca wicks away moisture 85% more than wool and naturally repels bacteria and odour due to its keratin protein content.
– Thermo-regulating & breathable- alpaca is 30% warmer than merino wool, however, thanks to its microscopic hollow fibre, it keeps you cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
